Tic Taco – Photographic Exhibition

Excuse the lack of posts lately, Knack’s been busy gettin an exhibition ready! –

Defining the essence of Australia’s skateboard culture,
TIC TACO: A photographic exhibition by Justin Barnwell, officially kick-starts a week of skateboard mayhem at Beach Burrito, Bondi Beach, on Wednesday 17th February and will be on display until Sunday 28th February, 2010

Celebrating Bowl-A-Rama (the Southern Hemispheres most premier and publicized skateboard competition) TIC TACO documents five years of gritty passion and tenacity in thirty photographs, as the worlds greatest professional and amateur skateboarders, their devote followers, and some truly colorful crowds, partake in the annual pilgrimage to Sydney’s Bondi Beach in search of the ultimate week of skateboard heaven.

The exhibition will kick start with a night of Mexican mayhem. Limited edition prints will be available to buy on the night with an exhibition opening special incentive.

Interesting Interview :: Noah Kalina

Knack being big fans of Noah’s work was definitely interested in this interview with the talented man himself. Seen on the ever inspiring toomuchchocolate site.

“I like to think every shoot I do professionally or otherwise is personal. Sometimes I don’t get a shot on a commercial or editorial job that I think falls into the category of “personal” but I always try and I am always thinking about it.”

Lyndon Wade : Photography

lyndon_wade

Here’s another favorite photographer to add to the list. Lyndon Wade is a photographer based in New York city who’s work provokes vigorous energy that suggests a real moment being captured. Wade seems to have an amazing ability to produce complete narratives in a single image or that in a series.

With a client list including Sony, Virgin, Lee Europe, Emanuel Ungaro, Coke , Pepsi, Reebok, Channel 4 (London) Nestea, Sprite, CMT, Shady (Eminem) Limited, Target, Nintendo, Best Buy, WWE, Crest, Caesars, Dodge, Vibe, Stuff, Maxim, Harper Collins, Molson Beer, Vox Vodka, Sprint, GE, Sonic, Bayer, Nestle, BBDO, Draft FCB, J. Walter Thompson, Berlin-Cameron
United, Mcgarry Bowen, Saatchi NY, he seems to be doing alright.

Love his style.

inspire

Came across this rad little blog called Inspire your Imagination that profiles, links to, showcases, talks about etc. etc. photographers from around the globe. Awesome resource for inspiration and to see what people are getting up to. Couldn’t quite find out to much info on who runs this but am impressed none-the-less.

Mike Brodie AKA. The Polaroid Kid

Came across the Polaroid kids website and was impressed with what I saw….

Did a little research on the dude:

In 2003 Brodie left home at 18 to travel the rails across America. A friend gave him a camera and he found himself spending three years photographing the friends and companions he encountered with the Polaroid SX-70.[1] Polaroid discontinued SX-70 film, so now he shoots on 35mm on a Nikon F3.

Mike’s photographs have been featured in exhibits in Milwaukee, Austin, Atlanta and Los Angeles. His work was also selected to appear in the 2006 edition of the Paris International Photo Fair at the Louvre.[2] In November 2007 he collaborated with Swoon and Chris Stain to mount an installation at Gallery LJ Beaubourg in Paris.[3]. He also has had collaborative shows with artist Monica Canilao.

His photographs largely depict what he refers to as “travel culture”, train-hoppers, vagabonds, squatters and hobos. Brodie says his subjects are friends and acquaintances, “I know most everyone I shoot. I can’t really shoot a good photo of somebody unless I know them, but you can get to know somebody just by talkin for a few minutes ya know?
